Rental Registration Now Open

Landlords may now register their rental units with the City of Newark online. Landlords should register their rental properties by July 1, 2026.

Landlords should review their other obligations under Ordinance 561 and state law. Resources are available on the City’s tenant protections webpage.

City Council adopted Ordinance 561 on January 22, 2026, to protect renters, reduce displacement and homelessness, and clarify the rights and obligations of renters and landlords.

Ordinance 561 requires owners of residential rental properties to register their rental units with the City. Registration fees cover the costs of administering the ordinance and providing services to landlords and tenants.
