City of Newark launches first-time homebuyer program

The City of Newark, in partnership with Hello Housing, is excited to announce that pre-applications are NOW OPEN for the Down Payment Assistance Loan (DPAL) Program!

Designed to help make homeownership more attainable, the program provides eligible first-time homebuyers with up to $200,000 in down payment assistance to purchase a home in Newark.

🔑 Program Highlights:

💰 Loans of up to $200,000 based on household income

  • ✅ No interest and no monthly payments

  • 🏠 Available for eligible first-time homebuyers purchasing a home in Newark

  • 📍 Priority given to households that live or work in Newark

With a combined $4 million investment from the City of Newark and state funding secured through Assemblymember Alex Lee, this program represents an important step toward expanding homeownership opportunities in our community.

📅 Pre-Application Period: October 15, 2026 – January 8, 2027
